Health Ministry Convenes Third Quarter HSCC Meeting to Review Progress and Challenges

(Monrovia, Liberia – November 18, 2025)— The Ministry of Health on Tuesday convened the third quarter meeting of the Health Sector Coordination Committee (HSCC), bringing together sector leaders, development partners, and technical stakeholders to review progress, identify gaps, and advance solutions to key health sector challenges.

Partners from the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, UNFPA, Last Mile Health, USAID, the World Bank, and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) attended the meeting, providing updates on ongoing interventions and discussing emerging issues across the sector.

In her remarks, Minister of Health Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto welcomed participants and underscored the importance of sustained multisectoral collaboration in driving improvements within the health system. She noted that the HSCC remains a vital platform for aligning national priorities, monitoring progress, and strengthening accountability among all stakeholders.

Dr. Kpoto highlighted recent policy actions and strategic directions under her leadership, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, especially for women and children.

While acknowledging gains made in recent months, she stressed that accelerating the reduction of maternal deaths remains a top national priority, one that requires increased resource mobilization and strong political will.

During the partners’ briefing segment, development partners shared progress on their respective programs and reiterated their continued support for the Ministry of Health. Key areas of focus included maternal and child health, emergency preparedness and response, capacity-building, and overall health systems strengthening.

The third quarter HSCC meeting forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to enhance accountability, reinforce coordination, and ensure that national health priorities, particularly the reduction of maternal mortality, remain central to Liberia’s health agenda.
