MoH and Partners Scale Up Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Services in Margibi and Grand Bassa Counties

(Buchanan, Grand Bassa, April 15, 2026) – The Ministry of Health (MoH), through the Community Health Services Division (CHSD) and Family Health Division (FHD), in partnership with the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS) and implementing partners, has intensified efforts to strengthen Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) service delivery across primary healthcare units in Margibi and Grand Bassa counties, through a three-day joint technical planning session to address gaps in maternal and reproductive health services.

The concept behind the intervention focuses on strengthening coordination and service delivery across all tiers of the health system, particularly at the community, primary health care, and health center levels, where significant gaps have been identified in family planning (FP), post-abortion care (PAC), and essential maternal health services.

The activity also aligns with the Ministry’s year-round operational agenda, described as “All Boots on Ground & All Hands-on Deck, to End Preventable Maternal and Newborn Deaths,” which aims to accelerate health service delivery through continuous engagement and field-level responsiveness.

The joint planning exercise is intended to bridge these gaps through a structured and evidence-based approach that aligns national priorities with county-level implementation realities.

The planning workshop convened a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, program managers, SRH technical experts, County Health Teams, District Health Teams, Community Health Services Supervisors (CHSSs), Officers-in-Charge (OICs), and implementing partners.

Participants were tasked with assessing existing service delivery challenges, identifying operational bottlenecks, and developing a coordinated scale-up plan for SRH services across community and facility levels.

One of the key objectives of the engagement was to “assess current gaps and opportunities in SRH service delivery across community health workers, clinics, and district health centers,” according to the concept note guiding the exercise.

The gathering also sought to define clear roles and responsibilities for stakeholders at every level of the health system, while strengthening coordination mechanisms to improve efficiency and accountability in service delivery.

The expected outcomes of the exercise include the development of a comprehensive and costed SRH service delivery scale-up plan, improved stakeholder coordination, and enhanced readiness for the nationwide expansion of integrated SRH services.

In Margibi County, the planning workshop saw strong participation from county and district health supervisors, hospital medical directors, 26 CHSSs, and 65 OICs drawn from both public and private health facilities.

Meanwhile, a parallel SRH planning process has concluded in Grand Bassa County, bringing together officials from the MoH (CHSD and FHD), LCPS, Americare, the Grand Bassa County Health Team, 65 CHSSs, and representatives from 35 health facilities across the county
