MOH to Join Global Health Community to Celebrate World Malaria Day

(Monrovia, Liberia, April 23, 2026) — The Ministry of Health (MOH) will tomorrow, April 24, 2026, join the global health community in commemorating World Malaria Day under the theme: “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”

As part of activities befitting the occasion, the Ministry will host an indoor program at its headquarters in Congo Town. This will be followed on Saturday, April 25, by a series of community awareness campaigns across parts of Montserrado County, including PUCC Community, Fiamah, and Parker’s Paint Community, among others.

World Malaria Day is observed annually on April 25th to raise awareness about malaria and the global efforts to control and ultimately eradicate the disease. This day is an opportunity to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control.

The day was established in 2007 by the World Health Organization, evolving from Africa Malaria Day, which had been observed since 2001 following the Abuja Declaration on malaria control.

The observance provides a platform to highlight the ongoing fight against malaria and to reinforce commitments toward ending the disease. It also seeks to mobilize resources, strengthen political will, and promote the adoption of proven interventions.

The 2026 theme underscores that malaria elimination is within reach, given the availability of effective tools, scientific advancements, and strong African-led initiatives. However, it also emphasizes the urgency of sustained action to prevent resurgence and save lives.

The campaign further aligns with the global movement “Zero Malaria Starts with Me,” which encourages individuals, communities, and policymakers to take ownership of malaria prevention and elimination efforts.

The public is urged to actively participate in awareness activities, adopt preventive measures, and seek early treatment when symptoms arise.

Finally, the Ministry of Health is committed to strengthening malaria prevention, expanding access to treatment, and accelerating efforts toward the elimination of malaria in Liberia.
