(NIMBA COUNTY, June 8, 2025) — The Ministry of Health (MOH), on Saturday, June 7, dedicated the Younlay Clinic in Gbehlay-Geh District, Upper Nimba County, marking a milestone in rural healthcare delivery. The ceremony drew residents from five catchment communities, including Yeaplay, Gbarplay, Sarkolay, Gayeplay, and Younlay, alongside traditional leaders and county officials, all celebrating a shared achievement in local health development.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, was represented by the Director of the County Health Services Unit, Dr. Lorraine C. Cooper. Dr. Cooper commended the people of Younlay and surrounding areas for their commitment to strengthening the grass-root healthcare system at the district level. “On behalf of Minister Kpoto, I say thank you to our traditional leaders, the youth, the community health team, and especially the people of this district,” Dr. Cooper said. “This new structure is more than just a building—it is a symbol of hope, access, and the power of partnership between government and its people.”
Dr. Lorraine C. Cooper disclosed that the new facility is already delivering services to over 5,700 residents across six communities and provides expanded care in maternal health, outpatient services, and immunization. She also highlighted the importance of community ownership. “We must protect and preserve this investment. Maintenance, accountability, and collaboration are key to sustaining the quality of care,” Dr. Cooper stated.
Nimba County Health Officer, Dr. Robertlee Dolo, confirmed the clinic is fully equipped with essential medical supplies and modern amenities. “As mandated by the Minister of Health, your clinic is well furnished with the necessary equipment, including medications and a flush toilet system,” he announced.
Dr. Dolo praised the community members and development partners for their contributions. “You carried water, you brought sand, and you made this possible. You are the pillars of this project,” he noted.
The Younlay Clinic was completed through joint efforts from the Ministry of Health, Nimba County Social Development Fund, former Representative Joseph N. Somwarbi, and the local residents. “This new facility now gives us room to provide maternity, outpatient, and family planning services under one roof,” Dr. Dolo stated. “It’s a significant leap forward.” The Town Chief, Hon. Obadiah Wortuo, welcomed the guests and called the clinic a “community treasure.” He praised the government and development partners for responding to the local needs. “Our voices were heard, and now healthcare is within reach,” he stated.
Representations from the youth, women, and religious groups pledged to support the clinic’s long-term operations, vowing to collaborate in its maintenance and sustainability.
