(Monrovia, Liberia – July 19, 2025) — As part of its national response to the growing drug abuse crisis, the Ministry of Health (MOH), through its Mental Health Unit, has launched a strategic collaboration with private drug rehabilitation centers to strengthen the quality of care for individuals struggling with substance use disorders (SUD).
Recently, the Ministry conducted supervision and engagement visits to the Journey Against Violence Rehabilitation Center in Mount Barclay and the National Rehabilitation Center for Drugs and War-Affected Youths in the Bong Mines Bridge Community. These visits are part of a broader initiative to promote evidence-based and human rights–oriented approaches in the treatment and rehabilitation of individuals affected by substance use. Through this collaboration, service providers at private facilities are receiving targeted training to ensure the application of best practices in SUD treatment. The initiative also includes regular supervisory visits aimed at promoting adherence to quality standards and improving data collection and reporting systems.
The Ministry recognizes the critical role of private providers and NGOs in addressing drug and substance abuse. MOH remains committed to supporting and empowering private providers with the tools and oversight needed to deliver effective and ethical care. This effort complements existing services provided by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Mother of Light Rehabilitation Center, further expanding access to quality treatment across the country.
The Ministry of Health calls on all private and non-governmental rehabilitation providers to align their programs with national guidelines and actively support government-led efforts to combat substance use and promote recovery and reintegration.
