(Monrovia, Liberia, July 24, 2025)—In a continued effort to improve healthcare delivery across Liberia, Dr. Catherine T. Cooper, Chief Medical Officer of Liberia, has embarked on a nationwide county tour alongside a delegation of Assistant Ministers and Technical Assistants. The tour, which officially commenced on July 7, 2025, is set to cover all fifteen counties in the country.
This comprehensive field engagement forms part of the Ministry of Health’s strategic initiative to strengthen Liberia’s health service delivery through direct interaction with county health teams, frontline workers, and key community stakeholders. It also aims to assess the performance of Liberia’s health supply chain systems, particularly at the last-mile level, and ensure that rural health facilities are not left behind.
Throughout the county visits, the Chief Medical Officer and her team are focusing on a wide range of assessments, particularly those related to the implementation and efficiency of the supply chain within the local health systems. This includes evaluating how medical commodities are managed from procurement and storage to distribution while identifying existing gaps in inventory tracking, storage conditions, and the frequency of stockouts at health facilities.
By engaging directly with county health teams and local leaders, the tour aims to enhance coordination among stakeholders and foster stronger linkages between the national level and grassroots healthcare providers. A major focus is placed on ensuring that healthcare workers in hard-to-reach communities are equipped with the tools and support they need to deliver essential services.
The tour also highlights the Ministry’s commitment to promoting accountability in health service delivery. Dr. Cooper’s team is actively documenting both the successes and challenges observed in the field, with the goal of compiling a comprehensive report that will guide future interventions. Additionally, the team is reviewing market-based solutions and existing partnerships to determine their effectiveness in bridging logistical gaps in remote areas.
This county tour comes at a time when the government is prioritizing equitable access to healthcare for all Liberians, regardless of location. Through this initiative, the Ministry of Health is reaffirming its dedication to building a responsive, efficient, and transparent health system capable of meeting the needs of the population at every level.
