Liberia Government Hospital Makes Strides in Patient Care and Facility Upgrades

(December 30, 2024, Tubmanburg, Bomi County) – Dr. Levi Korhenia, Medical Director of the Liberia Government Hospital (LGH) in Bomi County, said significant improvements have been made in patient care and hospital facilities, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery.  Dr. Korhenia revealed that the hospital has made remarkable progress in maternal and child health services, positioning itself as a leader in the field even before the intervention of Liberia’s First Lady who is also carrying out a tremendous development at the hospital. He noted that substantial renovations have been undertaken on the maternal and child health wing, including reinforcing the delivery room, upgrading the plumbing system, changing outdated tires, and repainting the facility. “Through Performance-Based Financing (PBF) and government allotments, we have achieved major milestones, including the installation of functional air-conditioning systems in our offices, operating rooms, and emergency rooms,” Dr. Korhenia stated. In terms of sanitation, the hospital has significantly improved hygiene practices, installing hand-washing stations with running water throughout the facility, including at the entrance of the Emergency Room. The grounds and interior of the hospital have also undergone extensive cleaning and painting, creating a more welcoming environment for patients.

Dr. Korhenia expressed gratitude for a recent consignment of drugs and medical supplies provided by the government, describing them as essential to the hospital’s operations. He urged that such tangible support continue, noting the positive impact on patient care. “At LGH, we have implemented a drug revolving fund, ensuring consistent access to medication. This year, we have not had to send patients outside to purchase medicine, a significant improvement compared to previous years,” he said. Despite the progress, Dr. Korhenia acknowledged that more needs to be done to sustain and expand the hospital’s achievements. He reaffirmed the commitment of LGH to providing quality healthcare and called for continued support from stakeholders.
