(Monrovia, Liberia, June 30, 2026) — The collaborative partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Liberia Global Health & Surgery Consortium (LGHSC), an international network of Liberian physicians, surgeons, nurses, public health specialists, and other healthcare professionals committed to strengthening healthcare delivery in Liberia, has recorded significant progress just six months after the signing of a partnership agreement.

In January, the Ministry of Health signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the LGHSC to strengthen the country’s health system by leveraging the expertise of Liberian healthcare professionals in the diaspora. The agreement was designed to support local institutions through training, technical assistance, knowledge exchange, and health systems strengthening.

According to the partnership’s first six-month progress report, the collaboration has moved from planning to implementation, with early achievements reflecting a structured and results-oriented approach.

The report highlights stronger institutional cooperation, expanded technical support for healthcare services, and improvements in clinical systems that align with the Ministry’s national health priorities. These early gains underscore the partnership’s role in accelerating health sector reforms and expanding access to quality healthcare services.

The initiative is built on a model of shared leadership that combines international expertise with local knowledge to strengthen existing healthcare capacity while supporting sustainable system improvements. It is expected to enhance essential health services, improve clinical standards, promote workforce development, and strengthen the resilience of Liberia’s health system.
