(MONROVIA, Liberia, March 20, 2026) — The Ministry of Health (MOH) is set to launch a nationwide 365-day maternal mortality reduction campaign to significantly lower maternal and neonatal death rates nationwide.
The campaign forms part of the ministry’s efforts to strengthen the healthcare system and improve outcomes for pregnant women and newborns.
As part of the rollout, the Ministry has begun deploying medical doctors, nurses, and midwives to health facilities across the 15 counties to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services.
In a major shift in policy implementation, health professionals currently serving in administrative roles at the Ministry have been assigned to clinical duties at hospitals and primary healthcare centers. The move is intended to address workforce gaps and enhance direct patient care, particularly in maternal and neonatal health services.
Also, this strategic deployment is expected to strengthen the capacity of hospitals to handle maternal and neonatal cases, especially in underserved and rural communities.
The 365-day campaign will focus on improving access to skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric care, prenatal and postnatal services, and timely referrals. It will also emphasize community awareness and early health-seeking behavior among pregnant women.
This move reflects the Ministry’s commitment to tackling preventable deaths and ensuring that no woman or child dies from avoidable complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or the postnatal period.
The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its determination to work with partners and stakeholders to achieve sustained reductions in maternal and neonatal mortality rates across the country.
