MOH, Partners Launch Emergency Food Assistance for Mpox-Affected Households in Liberia

(Monrovia, Liberia, March 5, 2026) — The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), the World Food Program (WFP), and the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), has launched an emergency food assistance program to support households affected by the ongoing Mpox outbreak in Liberia.

The initiative was unveiled on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Ministry of Health in Congo Town. It aims to support recovery, strengthen community resilience, and help contain the spread of the disease through targeted assistance to affected families.

Speaking during the launch on behalf of Health Minister Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, Dr. Gobee Logan emphasized that the intervention is designed to reduce the economic burden on families impacted by the outbreak while ensuring compliance with isolation and prevention measures.

“This intervention will reduce the challenges faced by impacted families. On behalf of the Minister of Health, I hereby declare this program officially launched,” Dr. Logan declared.

In separate remarks, partners at the event pledged their continued commitment to supporting Liberia’s public health response, particularly during health emergencies.

The program is being implemented under the Mpox Incident Management System (IMS) and will provide life-saving support to isolated patients, contacts of confirmed cases, and communities considered to be at high risk of infection.
