Bahn Health Center Set for Upgrade to Comprehensive Health Center.

(Bahn, Nimba County, February 28, 2025)– The Bahn Health Center in Zoe-Geh District, Nimba County, is undergoing infrastructure and service upgrades, positioning it for elevation to a Comprehensive Health Center. According to Dr. Ponnie Robertlee Dolo, Nimba County Health Officer (CHO), the facility has seen major renovations, including upgrades to its buildings, installation of modern flush toilets, tiling of floors, plumbing and sewage system repairs, and fresh painting of all facility structures—including the Outpatient Department (OPD), inpatient building, and maternal waiting home. Additionally, the health center has acquired a range of medical and surgical equipment to enhance service delivery, particularly in surgery and blood transfusion. These include surgical beds, delivery beds, standing scales, admission and examination beds, stretchers, manual and electrical autoclaves, surgical masks, kidney basins, and gauze drums.

Dr. Dolo emphasized that Bahn Health Center serves 19 catchment communities with a population of over 35,000. The facility is equipped with staff quarters, a maternal waiting home, an ambulance, a modern triage, a water tower, an inpatient ward annex, a laboratory, a 30KVA diesel generator, two new laundry machines and dryers, solar power, and water pumps. With a functional surgical theater and medical doctors, the center aims to manage maternal and newborn complications, as well as other emergencies, which are currently referred to Saclepea Comprehensive Health Center, JFD Hospital in Tappita, Ganta United Methodist Hospital, and E&J Medical Center in Ganta. To further enhance healthcare delivery, the Nimba County Health Team (NCHT) has proposed upgrading Bahn Health Center to a Comprehensive Health Center. This includes establishing a mini-operating theatre to bridge service gaps, particularly in maternal and child health care. The upgrade aligns with the county’s 10-year health plan, developed in collaboration with national and local stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Office of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung is supporting the ongoing construction of a modern surgical building and theatre. Once completed, the upgraded facility is expected to strengthen healthcare services in the region.
