(Paynesville, Liberia – December 2, 2024)—The President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., dedicated a newly refurbished maternal ward at the Pipeline Health Center in Paynesville, outside Monrovia. The Pipeline Health Center is the latest facility to transform, following the recent refurbishment of the Du-port Road Health Center. The President was joined by various government officials, including Health Minister, Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto; to officially unveil the facility to the public. Speaking at the event, President Boakai commended the health workers and leadership of the Pipeline Health Center for their dedication and service, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and the welfare of healthcare professionals.
“Our responsibility is to serve the people of Liberia and to ensure that our healthcare workers are supported. When patients seek care, we must provide it with dignity and professionalism. By God’s grace, we will fulfill our promise to make our health workers happy and improve the lives of our citizens,” the President remarked. The project was spearheaded under the visionary leadership of the Office of the First Lady, H.E. Madame Kartumu Yarta Boakai. As a champion of Maternal and Newborn Health, the First Lady continues to lead efforts to transform Liberia’s healthcare system, focusing on ensuring quality care for women and children across the nation. In her remarks, First Lady Boakai expressed her unwavering commitment to the country’s health system: “Today, we celebrate the power of faith, unity, and collaborative action. This facility’s transformation symbolizes what we can achieve together. My commitment is to ensure that no woman faces the challenge of childbirth alone.”
First Lady Boakai continued: “During these 16 Days of Activism, we reaffirm our pledge to protect and empower women and girls. This facility is a testament to our shared goal of building a wealthier and healthier Liberia.” Minister of Health, Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, said maternal and newborn health is the backbone of Liberia’s health system, stating: “Saving the lives of our children is essential to securing the future of our nation. We are grateful to the President, the First Lady, and our partners for their unwavering commitment to this cause. Together, we are aligning our efforts with the President’s vision for a healthier and stronger Liberia.” The dedication also featured special remarks from the UNFPA Country Representative, Madam Bidisha Pillai, who reaffirmed the United Nations’ support for Liberia’s healthcare service delivery.
