MOH, Partners Launch Better Health Outcomes for Liberians Project

(Monrovia, Liberia, January 20, 2025)—the Ministry of Health (MOH) in partnership with Action Against Hunger Liberia as well as the French Development Agency over the weekend launched the “Better Health Outcomes for Liberians (BEHOL)” Project at the Montserrado County Health Team headquarters in Duport Road. Speaking during the launch, Dr. Jewel Tarpeh Kollie, Montserrado County Health Officer (CHO), expressed gratitude to the project’s implementing partners and donors for their support. She unveiled the pressing challenges faced by the health sector, particularly in Montserrado County.

“On behalf of the Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, we extend our thanks and appreciation to our partners and donors for this kind gesture. Montserrado, as the county with the largest population, faces significant challenges in providing adequate health services. Our health indicators are not favorable, but with this support, we are optimistic about overcoming some of these challenges,” Dr. Kollie vowed. The  BEHOL project seeks to improve the health status of Liberians in three counties, including Montserrado, Nimba, and Margibi counties. The project will be implemented in 25 targeted public health facilities: 15 in Montserrado, 6 in Nimba, and 4 in Margibi. With a total budget of 5 million euros and a three-year implementation timeline, the BEHOL Project also seeks to enhance MOH leadership, ownership, and oversight at national, county, and district levels. It will focus on improving the quality of services in areas such as Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health (RMNCH), Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Gender and Protection, Emergency Preparedness and Response, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support. The BEHOL Project is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery, bringing hope to many Liberians in the targeted counties.
