(Monrovia, Liberia Maech 31, 2025) The Ministry of Health (MOH) is proud to announce the commencement of a comprehensive substance use disorder (SUD) treatment program, a key component of the national intervention spearheaded by the Multisectoral Committee on Drug and Substance Abuse, established by President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. In collaboration with the Mother of Light Rehabilitation Program (Oum el Nour Liberia), this initiative underscores our commitment to providing evidence-based treatment for individuals grappling with drug use disorders.
In this initial phase, the program has established three outpatient centers —two in Montserrado County and one in Grand Bassa County—as well as one inpatient center in Grand Bassa County. Additionally, renovation of the Youth Agricultural Training Center (YATC) in Bensonville is underway and, once completed, will serve as the second inpatient rehabilitation center.
The treatment services is being delivered by a dedicated team comprising both volunteers and staff from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency. This multidisciplinary team includes psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, addiction professionals, educators, social workers, and TVET trainers. Beneficiaries will also have access to basic vocational training programs in agriculture, tailoring, and computer skills to support their long-term recovery and reintegration.
The Government of Liberia remains steadfast in its commitment to offering evidence-based SUD treatment programs to those affected by substance use disorders, ensuring a healthier future for our communities.
The hotline numbers will be posted in the coming days for people seeking treatment.
