STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY HEALTH, SAVING LIVES

Monrovia, September 10, 2026: The Ministry of Health, through the National Community Health Program, is proud to announce the launch of a new initiative to boost community-level uptake of Sayana Press and strengthen referrals for Antenatal Care (ANC) and facility delivery across five counties: Lofa, Bong, River Gee, Grand Kru, and Grand Bassa.

This three-month project (September – November 2026) is implemented under the Minister of Health’s 365 Days Initiative, which aims to reduce maternal and child morbidity nationwide.

Funding has been provided by the Ministry of Health as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthen community health systems and bring quality RMNCAH services closer to the people.

Objective: Strengthen community health systems to expand access to family planning and maternal, newborn, and child health services.

Expected Outputs: Increased community-level Sayana Press uptake, increased facility referrals for ANC and delivery

Key Activities

1.           Intensifying community family planning (Sayana Press) and maternal/newborn identification, registration, and referral by Community Health Assistants (CHAs) to improve access to RMNCAH services

2.           Strengthening community engagement in schools, youth groups, women’s groups, and with religious and local leaders on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) to increase knowledge and service uptake

3.           Conducting quarterly supportive supervision of CHAs/CHPs by facility and county health teams (CHSS) to ensure quality service delivery

The CHSD Director, S. Olasford Wiah along with a technical team has been providing orientation to these counties from Monday August 31, 2026 to Saturday, September 5, 2026 with support from the Project Coordinating Unit.

This project reflects the Ministry’s continued investment in community-based health workers as the backbone of Liberia’s health system — bringing essential services directly to families in hard-to-reach areas.

Together, we are building healthier communities, one household at a time.
