(Monrovia, Liberia, June 19, 2026)—The Ministry of Health (MOH) has completed training of emergency health personnel on the use of the digital patient reporting mechanism.
The two-day training was carried out between June 15 and June 16, 2026, through the National Health Intelligence Center (NHIC) in partnership with the National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program. Emergency medical technicians, ambulance drivers, dispatchers, EMS supervisors, and data officers from Montserrado County were gathered as part of the initial phase of the nationwide rollout.
This training was organized following an overhaul and update of the country’s Emergency Medical Services Patient Care Report (PCR) form, with these documents now being digitized.
The digital platform will contribute to increased accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of the emergency information on patients gathered during the course of emergency operations.
The digital system will allow real-time reporting and will increase the speed of access to information for health authorities.
During the training, the participants were introduced to the digital EMS platform and to its functionality; training was provided on using the electronic Patient Care Report (ePCR); standardization of procedures for emergency data collection and reporting was also covered.
The trainees got to test the digital platform in practice and to provide feedback on the functioning of the system that will help to further improve the platform before it is rolled out nationwide.
Stephen M. Gbanyan Jr, Coordinator for HMERT, noted at the opening ceremony that digital transformation remains key to upgrading the healthcare system in Liberia.
According to Gbanyan, the EMS digitized reporting system will help to track patients better, to increase the quality of emergency data and facilitate evidence-based decision making.
The ministry emphasized that this is a component of the effort to build a modern and data-driven emergency healthcare system.
Additional training phases covering other counties would be announced in coming months as the government continues to expand this program beyond the borders of Montserrado County.
The ministry expressed gratitude to the emergency medical personnel who took part in the training and reiterated its intention to implement the digital reporting system on a nationwide level.
