Incident Management System on the National Mpox Response Concludes 10-Day Monitoring Mission in Grand Bassa County

(Buchanan, Grand Bassa – January 26, 2026) – The Incident Management System (IMS) on the National Mpox Response has concluded a ten-day Joint Coordination Monitoring and Supportive Supervision Mission in Grand Bassa County, aimed at strengthening the county’s response to the Mpox outbreak.

The mission took place between January 14 and January 23, 2026. It was carried out by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in collaboration with the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), with support from the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF). The mission focused on assessing response coordination at the county and district levels, as well as improving case management and boosting community awareness and engagement.

The joint team from MOH and NPHIL evaluated the performance of the County Incident Management System and district coordination structures while providing technical support to county and district health teams. Progress made in the Mpox response was reviewed, and key gaps and areas for improvement were identified.

Speaking at a county engagement meeting, Dr. Jude G. Whesseh, County Health Officer (CHO) of the Grand Bassa County Health Team, welcomed the national delegation and praised the initiative. He assured the team of the county’s full cooperation in strengthening Mpox response efforts across all affected districts.

As part of the monitoring activities, 6 of the 8 health districts in the county that have reported Mpox cases or remain under response were visited. The team assessed 3 hospitals, 11 clinics, and 44 communities, where healthcare workers and residents were interviewed and Mpox Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials were distributed.

At the end of the joint mission, the Grand Bassa County Health Team was debriefed on the key findings, challenges, and observations from the field visits and engagements.

This Joint Coordination Monitoring and Supportive Supervision Mission underscores the government’s commitment to coordinate and effectively respond to Mpox disease, with continued collaboration between national institutions, county health teams, and partners.
