Major Stake holders in the health sector including World Bank, WHO, UNICEF and USAID among others have congregated in a one day Forum in Monrovia to look at the Health component of the Pro poor agenda for Development and prosperity.

A Ministry of Health statement quoting its Communication Director, Sorbor George said the Forum, organized by WHO also aims to   align the country’s health priorities with the WHO’s 13 General program of work, approved during the 71th General Assembly held in Geneva recently.

Delivering the keynote address at the opening of the Forum, Acting Health Minister, Norwu Howard, expressed delight over the gathering, describing it as a significant step to working improve the country’s health sector.

Minister Howard record gains that have made following the Ebola outbreak, but however said more needs to be done in the building of a resilient health sector.

In order to achieve universal health coverage, Minister Howard said, there must be an inter sectorial approach and a sustained Health financing.

She named Liberia’s Health sector priorities as building a fit for purpose workforce through capacity building, , strengthening supply chain system to deal with drugs shortage and sustainable health financing.

Acting Minister Howard also named reducing maternal mortality and neonatal, improved health infrastructure, successfully tackling vaccine preventable diseases and on the overall providing quality healthcare to the people of Liberia.

She further thanked the Government of Liberia for making Health a priority in its agenda as Health is a human right issue.

The forum also brings together key units and departments in the ministry.
