Liberia signs global compact
Liberia has signed the IHP+ global compact at a ceremony held in Washington DC at the world Bank Office..
The IHP is the International Health Partnership for effective development cooperation.
Health Minister, Dr. Bernice Dahn signed on behalf of the country at the ceremony attended by Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization and Dr Tim Evans, Senior Director for the Health, Nutrition and Population Global Practice, at the World Bank Group.
Dr. Dahn described the signing ceremony, a milestone move for Liberia.” Dr. Dahn also recalled that for the past ten years the country has been building and reforming its health sector with a very large amount of international support in addition to domestic resources. But she however said the coordination to ensure that the support is implemented effectively is lacking which result in persistent inequalities and inefficiencies in the country’s health care delivery system.
“The Ministry of Health wishes to align donor support with the priorities of the National Health Strategic Plan, and achieve efficiency gains by minimizing duplication of funding and parallel implementation arrangements. A key part of this new approach is to put into practice the IHP+ principles in the health sector.” Health Minister Dahn said.
IHP+ warmly welcomes Liberia to the partnership, and looks forward to the collaboration.
